Javier Bardem & James Franco may be joining Sam Worthington in Clash Of The TitansRumours abound on the net today concerning the possible casting of two Greek deities for Clash Of The Titans 2.

The new Olympian additions are said to be Javier Bardem as Ares, the god of war, and James Franco as Agenor, son of the sea god Poseidon.

Also, the title being bandied around for this sequel is Wrath Of The Titans. At this stage all these details are just unsubstantiated rumour, but if anything changes or is officially confirmed, we’ll let you know. ;)

Sam Worthingon, Liam Neeson & Ralph Fiennes in Clash Of The TitansAccording to reports from comingsoon.net and filmonic.com both Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson have been confirmed to appear with Sam Worthington in the sequel to Clash Of The Titans.

Pre-production is scheduled to begin shortly for an early 2011 shoot. Along with Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton had already been confirmed to return as Io, and producer Basil Iwanyk has now revealed Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson will be reprising their roles of Hades and Zeus.

In a recent interview with comingsoon.net, he is recorded as saying:

“‘Clash of the Titans 2′ will go February 1st in the UK. Jonathan Liebesman, who just did this movie ‘Battle: Los Angeles’, is directing it. We’re on early prep on that. It’s a huge movie and we want to do a much better job on it,” he told us. “Listen, we’re prideful people and we want to win and the 3D really helped us in a lot of ways, but we also took a lot of heat for it. I think for my own career and my own sense of purpose, I want this movie to rock… and it will.”

One of the questions many people will have is who may be returning, since they introduced a fairly large band of men around Sam Worthington’s Perseus, who (spoilers!) were mostly killed off. He confirmed the return of Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson as Hades and Zeus respectively and that there were three key new roles. “Some of the Gods are (back),” he confirmed. “Sam’s back, Gemma Arterton, Ralph and Liam’s back, but we have a whole new group of people. I think we learned a lot from the tone of the first one, whether or not it got too serious or got too jokey, and it’s a really cool group of guys and three new big roles that I think will be movie stars, and we have high expectations for it, we really really do.”

Jonathan Liebesman to direct Sam Worthington sequel Clash Of The Titans 2Jonathan Liebesman (director of ”Battle: Los Angeles”) will also be directing Clash Of The Titans 2, with Sam Worthington reprising his role as Perseus and Gemma Arterton expected to return as his love interest Io.

Warner Bros needed to bring in a new director after Louis Leterrier decided not to return for the sequel.

As yet, they have not set a release date for the movie, though shooting is rumoured to start early in 2011.

It is reported that this project is a high priority for Warner, because of the first movie’s solid box office performance that reached nearly USD 500 million.

Warner and Legendary Pictures are once again joining forces to produce the movie which will be filmed in 3D rather than being post-converted as was the case for the previous one.

Writing the screenplay for this one are David Leslie Johnson and Dan Mazeau.

Sam Worthington as Perseus in Clash Of The Titans“Clash of the Titans 2″ is seemingly turning into a bigger priority by the day.

Producers, along with executives at Warner Bros. and producer Legendary Pictures, have been busily meeting with directors, with an eye to shooting the sequel as early as January.

A number of filmmakers are in contention for the job, but one name that’s risen to the top of the list is Jonathan Liebesman. Originally a horror director — he made “Darkness Falls” and the 2006 “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” prequel — Liebesman has re-fashioned himself as an action director. The filmmaker has a movie called “Battle: Los Angeles” — about an alien invasion in this fair city — coming next year. He’s also onboard for another classic action tale (or an action tale set in a classic period) at Warner Bros: a re-imagining of “Odysseus” with the producers of “300,” which Liebesman helped conceive and then sold to the studio.

The new director on “Clash 2″ would of course replace Louis Leterrier, who opted not to direct the follow-up to his recent film.

Warners and Legendary have reason to move quickly on “Clash 2.” The original (that is, the 2010 remake) pocketed a nice chunk of change — $162 million domestically and a solid $325 million overseas, on a budget of only about $125 million. And this one will be shot in 3-D — none of the conversion stuff. That means the movie could be more expensive, but at least it won’t get hammered for its look.

Early 2011 is also a priority because the studio needs to make sure star Sam Worthington, who is committed to shoot “Avatar 2″ (likely later in the year), is free and clear. Look for this one to continue to come together quickly.
