Sam Worthington as Perseus in Clash Of The TitansSome news via Collider.com on the naming of the sequel to 2010′s ‘Clash Of The Titans’.

Warner Brothers has finally won the right to use the title ‘Wrath of the Titans’ for their upcoming sequel. The studio had already decided on the name when they first announced the sequel was to be made, but as the title had already been trademarked by comic book publisher Bluewater Productions, they had to work on an agreement to use it. Today it was announced that after negotiating with the publisher, the studio will be able to use the name in exchange for licensing rights to it.

The full press release is as follows:

Earlier this year Warner Brothers announced the sequel to its successful 2010 blockbuster “Clash of the Titans” would be called “Wrath of the Titans.” Problem was, at the time, the name was already trademarked by comic book publisher Bluewater Productions.

Bluewater, who had already published two comic book mini-series under that moniker, recently announced that an agreement was reached with the studio whereby the movie will carry the previously announced Wrath title in exchange for licensing rights to the name.

“It’s a win-win for everybody,’ said Bluewater president Darren G. Davis, “we saved Warner Brothers millions in possible rebranding expenses and Bluewater gets to keep the name for various Greek-themed projects.”

According to Bluewater, several projects are already in the final stages of development including motion comic based on the two previously published graphic novels (2008’s “Wrath of the Titans”. Also a new graphic novel thru SCB “Wrath of the Titans: Revenge of Medusa”) will be out in February, a new series and a book aimed at juvenile readers by CW Cooke and Ramon Salas. Also in development is a radio drama broadcast from Colonial Radio Theater, which will air in February on Sirius/XM.

Bluewater has also hired a licensing agent Danny Simon from “The Licensing Group” to help develop other related properties such as toys, video games and more.

“We are thrilled to have been selected by Bluewater Productions to represent their titles for licensing. Bluewater Productions has developed action/adventure properties that are highly creative, and the kind of material that has proved so success in attracting fans and generating successful licensing programs.,” said Danny Simon from the Licensing Group.

The movie, which is scheduled to release in 2012, is still officially listed as “Clash of the Titans 2” on IMBD, but Warner Brothers is now free to use the name as the official movie title. Bluewater’s licensing efforts will not include character likenesses or other materials directly attributed to the film but take a more classic approach.

“Our version of Wrath is being retooled for a younger audience. The original graphic novels (written by Davis and his brother Scott Davis), will stand alone as individual stories, but going forward, our Wrath universe will be more in line with classic mythology,” Davis said. “It’s going to be part action -adventure, part education and all fun.”

Both graphic novels, single releases are still available through traditional retail outlets, comic book shops and several online venues including Amazon.com and the Barnes and Noble online stores. Digital versions of each book are also available on the NOOK and Kindle.

‘Wrath Of The Titans’ is due for release on 30th March 2012.

Sam Worthington as Perseus in Clash Of The TitansTHR reports today that Warner Brothers is preparing a third adventure for Sam Worthington’s demigod Perseus, even though we haven’t yet followed him on his second.

With ‘Wrath Of The Titans’ currently in post-production and due for release in March 2012, the studio has decided to go ahead and have a story for another instalment of Titan mayhem penned in preparation for a possible third movie.

The writers of the Wrath screenplay, Dan Mazeau and David Leslie Johnson, (who co-wrote with Steven Knight and also share story credit with Greg Berlanti), have been re-enlisted to develop and write a treatment for the project.

Insiders say that Agenor, a sidekick-like character played by Toby Kebbell, may also figure into the new story, as the second movie leaves the door open for the character’s return.

If the project is green-lighted, the producing team behind Wrath, Basil Iwanyk and Polly Johnsen among it, would return, along with director Jonathan Liebesman, though no deals are in place at this time.

‘Clash Of The Titans’, directed by Louis Leterrier, grossed $163 million domestically and a titanic $330 million overseas.

The release of ‘Wrath’ is eagerly anticipated by Sam Worthington fans!

As reported by various sources today, Warner Brothers Pictures and Legendary Pictures have announced today that production for Wrath Of The Titans is underway.

The full, official press release says:

‘Principal photography has begun on ‘Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ epic action adventure sequel to “Clash of the Titans,” being directed by Jonathan Liebesman (“Battle: Los Angeles”). Returning to star in the film are Sam Worthington (“Avatar”) as Perseus, and Academy Award® nominees Ralph Fiennes (“The English Patient,” the “Harry Potter” films) as Hades and Liam Neeson (“Schindler’s List,” “Unknown”) as Zeus.

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus—the demigod son of Zeus—is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius.

Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld.

Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramírez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth.

Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Jonathan Liebesman directs the film from a screenplay by Dan Mazeau & David Leslie Johnson and Steven Knight, story Greg Berlanti & David Leslie Johnson & Dan Mazeau, based on the 2010 hit “Clash of the Titans” and the 1981 film of the same name, written by the late Beverley Cross.

The film is produced by Basil Iwanyk (“The Town”), who also produced the previous “Clash of the Titans,” and Polly Cohen Johnsen (“Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore”). The executive producers are Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, William Fay, Callum McDougall, Kevin De La Noy and Louis Leterrier.

Joining Worthington, Fiennes and Neeson in the international cast are Danny Huston (“Robin Hood”), reprising his role as Poseidon, god of the sea; Edgar Ramírez (“The Bourne Ultimatum,” TV miniseries “Carlos”) as the traitorous god of war, Ares; Bill Nighy (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1”) as Hephaestus, whose twisted, lame figure belies his Olympian origins; Toby Kebbell (“Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time”) as Agenor, imprisoned thief and son of Poseidon who joins Perseus on his journey to Tartarus; and Rosamund Pike (“Barney’s Version”) as Andromeda, the princess whose life Perseus once saved, and who now, as a queen, follows Perseus into battle.

The behind-the-scenes team bringing this mythical epic to life includes director of photography Ben Davis (“The Rite,” “Kick Ass”); production designer Charles Wood (“The Italian Job,” “The A-Team”); Academy Award®-winning editor Martin Walsh (“Chicago,” “V for Vendetta”); and costume designer Jany Temime (the “Harry Potter” films). “Clash of the Titans 2” also reunites several talents from the previous film, including Oscar®-nominated visual effects supervisor Nick Davis (“The Dark Knight,”); Oscar®-nominated prosthetics supervisor Conor O’Sullivan (“The Dark Knight,” “Saving Private Ryan”); and Academy Award®-winning special effects and animatronics supervisor Neil Corbould (“Gladiator”). Also on board are Oscar®-nominated makeup designer Paul Engelen (“Frankenstein,” “Robin Hood”) and hair designer Kevin Alexander (“Robin Hood,” “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian”).

“Clash of the Titans 2” will be filming in studios outside London and will later shoot on location in Surrey, South Wales and in the Spanish Canary Islands on the island of Tenerife. The film is currently scheduled for release in March 2012.

A Warner Bros. Pictures presentation, in association with Legendary Pictures, a Thunder Road Film, “Clash of the Titans 2” is being co-produced by Furia de Titanes II, A.I.E. and COTT Productions and will be distributed in 3D and 2D worldwide by Warner Bros. Entertainment Companies.

Sounds exceedingly cool and we’re all looking forward to the first on-set pictures to emerge!

Deadline.com are reporting that 33-year-old Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez has been offered the role of Ares, the God of War, in the soon-to-start-production sequel to Clash Of The Titans.

It seems that Ramirez is ‘on the verge of making a deal’ to star opposite Sam Worthington, who reprises his role as Perseus. Liam Neeson will be return as Zeus, Perseus’ father and other confirmed returnees include Gemma Arterton (Io) and Ralph Fiennes (Hades).

We are yet to learn what the storyline to Wrath Of The Titans will actually hold for our demi-god hero, but we do know it is due to begin production in England this March and Warner Bros has already set a March 30th, 2012 release date.

Other rumoured cast additions are Toby Kebbell (RocknRolla and Prince of Persia) as Agenor, son of Poseidon, and a number of actresses appear to be on a shortlist for the role of Princess Andromeda including Clémence Poesy (In Bruges, Harry Potter, 127 Hours), Dominique McElligott (Dark Floors), Janet Montgomery (Black Swan), Georgina Haig (Wasted on the Young) and Hayley Atwell (The Duchess, Captain America).

Another name added to the rumour-mix is that of the awesome Bill Nighy! He’s been linked to the role of Hephaestus, the god of technology, blacksmiths, craftsmen, artisans, sculptors, metals, metallurgy, fire and volcanoes, but at this point his joining the cast is far from official.

As soon as we hear more, we will be sure to let you know! ;)

Sam Worthington as Perseus in Clash Of The Titans(via ComicBookMovie.com )

Warner Bros have finally set a release date for the sequel to Clash of the Titans which will see the return of Sam Worthington as Perseus and Liam Neeson as Zeus…

Little is known about the sequel right now, although Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles) has signed on to direct with cast members Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes all returning to reprise their respective roles.

Despite this lack of info (not surprising as the movie is currently undergoing its tenth rewrite according to star Liam Neeson in a recent interview) we now have a release date set. And that is:

March 30th, 2012

Dan Mazeau and David Johnson are working alongside Green Lantern writer Greg Berlanti on the script, so it’ll hopefully be an improvement on the first film, while various reports suggest that Warner Bros intend to shoot the film in 3D this time, after drawing criticism for the poor quality conversion of the first movie. Will you be giving them a second chance by checking out this sequel? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!
