Hi there!
Thought it was about time you got to know who ‘Sam Worthington Forum’ actually are, why we are here and how we ‘came to be’…
Why We’re Here…
Well now. The main reason is obvious enough: Sam Worthington!
Sam Worthington is a name that millions of us have seen on-screen over the last few years, mostly because he was the star of the highest-grossing film of all time, ‘Avatar’…but he made a huge impression on a lot of us before that, when he appeared alongside Christian Bale in Terminator Salvation, playing Marcus Wright. This was a part that truly needed an actor who could bring out the fragility and tragedy of the character, and not just focus on the obvious hard-edged grittiness that you’d expect from someone in a Terminator movie.
Yep, he caused more than a few in Tinsel Town to sit up and take notice with that one, and when Avatar came along, taking the entire world by storm, he had them on their feet and running to his reps with new scripts galore.
But this is only the recent, Hollywood side of things…
Back home in Australia, Sam was well-known and had already proven his worth as an actor, having won awards for his work there in the past. He’s shown a lot of courage as an actor, taking on a wide variety of roles that have shown him to be fantastically versatile and willing to take a leap-of-faith when needed.
Sam is an actor whose star we KNOW will still be shining brightly in the coming decades.
This is why this site exists, because Sam Worthington grabbed our imagination and tugged on our heartstrings in ways that most other actors simply have not.
THANK YOU SAM!!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
How We Came To Be…
Well, right now, the site is owned and run by me, Ronnie Ambler (Ronnie is short for Veronica by-the-way, but we don’t go there often…
). This is the story of how this site came about and all the fabulous people who brought it into being….
The site was originally started by Jeri, who also owned and ran the Official website for the actor Luke Goss (Jared Nomak in Blade II, Prince Nuada in Hellboy II, etc.,). Along with Jeri, the fabulous Lana and Sue have been on the Admin team there for a long, long time, and I joined them as one of the moderators in early 2009. After a while, Jeri decided to promote me to Super Moderator, then, amazingly, she asked me to become one of the Admin Staff! I was thoroughly gobsmacked as I’ve had no experience of doing this kind of thing before, but with Jeri and the girls behind me, I slowly learned a few tricks of the trade.
Jeri has run a lot of sites over the past few years and Sam Worthington Forum was one of her newest ventures. With help from Lana and Sue, this site was officially born on 1st January 2010.
I was there from the first week, helping in small ways as I had NO idea about all the technical ‘goings on’ behind the scenes of a website, and only a little experience with the forum side of things.
During the following months, Jeri, Sue and Lana, along with Gabby, (who now runs Luke’s site and her own, hiddenrealmentertainment.com, a site devoted to the character of Prince Nuada from the movie Hellboy II), taught me all kinds of stuff that almost sent my brain into full meltdown, but with their gentle guidance (and fab sense of humour!), I was able to take over the day-to-day running of the site and forum, secure in the knowledge that if I ever had a problem, the girls would be there to help me (or wrap me in a straight-jacket and lock me up for a few hours, whichever was more appropriate!
).
Safe to say, they’ve helped me so much that I really can’t find words to thank them enough for their willingness to help a daft old bint like me through all the techno-jargon and mind-boggling button-tweaking that’s involved in the process of building and running a website.
So, as I’ve been pretty much a fixture here for the last year-and-a-half, when Jeri decided she didn’t have enough time to devote to this site any longer, I took over the ownership of it, along with the forum.
We have a great team of Admin and Moderators to help anyone who needs it, and they help keep the site running smoothly as they, too, want the site to be a friendly haven for all Sam Worthington fans.
Taking over the ownership of a website and a forum is a convoluted business, and again, my brain was constantly aching with trying to work out all the ins-and-outs of signing things over, plus the necessity of changing to another host.
And this is when Gabby showed what an absolute angel she really is.
She walked me through the whole process of taking on the ownership of everthing, finding a new host, setting up the account, moving everything over from the old one, then making sure it all worked properly afterwards! And that included having to install a brand-new gallery (which is exasperating!!! lol!).
So, without her, this site would be floating dead in cyberspace somewhere, lights off, no-one at home, and not even a welcome mat at the door…
It’s hard to know how to express my gratitude to all these wonderful people for everything they’ve done to help me get to where I am now, but, along with a huge ‘Thank You!!!’ they also have a ton of heartfelt Love and Hugs from me.
You really don’t have anything in life if you don’t have mates like these.
xxx
